The flats from above

Activities

Spend a day in paradise

Eight miles of beach to yourself, bonefish flats out the back, and a hammock with your name on it.

A bonefish flat at low tide

Fishing & Boating

Fly-fishing the flats west of the Ambergris Cays. Reef fishing close to shore for snapper and grouper, or head out to deep-drop off the Tongue of the Ocean.

Paddleboarding

Beach & Water

Eight miles of beach, and a handful of places worth the walk. At the southern end, the Bajito is a square mile of sand bank that rises out of the water at low tide, covered in sand dollars. Shark Creek sits at the southern tip and the caves are at the northern end.

The old clubhouse and golf course

Island History

The 1960s resort left a nine-hole course, a clubhouse, and the Tamboo Club behind. Cistern Cay lies just west — a ghost island with a drug-running past and a plane in the shallows. The drive north to the island’s high point is worth the cart.
